Published from inside our tent in Mammoth Lakes, CA
When we started dreaming up this trip, the primary driving force was snowboarding. We set out to ride as much terrain as possible in a relatively short clip of time. Somewhere along the line, the riding became a secondary player and the vast countryside of the America took the lead.
I stand here with my hand up, admitting my guilt to the world. For all my travel and supposed culture, I had become complacent and under appreciative of my homeland. This trip has ignited an interest and a desire for further exploration. More to come.
These are the photos from Utah to Mammoth.

Happiness comes from many different places, in this case Jen is exuding joy because we narrowly escaped the scariest campsite in the world (or at least in Ogden, Utah)

The view from our campsite over the Great Salt Lake. This is actually the fresh water reservoir. I tried to convince Jen that we could check the Salt Lake off our list, I lost.

There is no such thing as a full vacation in this day, here I am being "that" guy. Sorry world.

Sunset behind the tent.

The obligatory Salt Lake car shot.

Jen forced me to walk out across the muck and yuck of the Salt Lake to put our feet in the actual water. If you know me, you probably know that I am not a big fan of sand or salt.. You can imagine the joy of the Fiesta post visit.

I am not sure if we were talking in this photo, probably not, but there is some salt in the background.

While the Salt Lake was of little interest to me, the Bonneville Salt Flats were awesome. Very difficult to explain the combined sensation of gazing across a sea of crystallized white while feeling the deep automotive history that resonates from the hard white surface.

Jen really wanted to drive the Fiesta out on to the salt, I fought her and miraculously won. I took this photo because it reminded me of the Mongol Rally shot that Patrick took ot the Fiesta with the Fiat.

While sticking her feet in the much of salt may have ranked high, I am sure that Jen's greatest accomplishment of this trip was hitting this tumbleweed and getting it stuck in the grill. She has only exhibited more pride for our daughter.

Yes we stayed in Circus Circus in Reno. I don't want to talk about it.

Lake Tahoe as witnessed by two Fiesta fools moments after taking a wrong turn. That wrong turn would cost us a day of riding but allow us to peer upon some of nature's finest scenes.

I am on the phone with Carrie, she is bagging on the trip to Mammoth to be responsible. Jen was all amped to take pictures, class acts right here.g

Alright, I admit it, California is amazing, there I said it.

Secondary proof of the aforementioned amazingness.

This reminds me of that driving game for Commodore 64, Test Drive. Respect.

and further proof.

We left Vermont in search of the season's last snow and returned with a revived appreciation of our country. We drove more miles in a week than anyone should ever take on. We violated the cardinal rule of travel by zooming through amazing park after amazing park without stopping to sop up the deliciousness. And yet we managed to discover so much and rallied a love that refuses to perish. Final Stats: 6400 miles, 8 days, 3 days snowboarding on 3 separate mountain ranges, 15 states, way too cheap web hosting, domain names many hours of driving, 3 nights camping, 2 nights sleeping in the car, one Orwell Memorial Day parade, and one couple that rediscovered their country and themselves.
Great photos!!! Hey...how about some snow riding shots? You gonna cross the highest highway point in America? Highway 34 in Rocky Mountain National Park a bit east of Fall River Pass... over 12,000'. Sure made the 240Z cough. See how Fiesta handles it?
Where are the pictures from Wendover?
Hey Seth,
I'm doing a blog post on my parenting website about how to stay "married" during a road trip. I'd like to pick your brain, ask a few interview questions, if you're up for it. You guys seem like the quintessential road tripping couple, and some tips on traveling with your daughter, too, might be interesting. I love your style and think you and Jen would be a great fit for my article. Let me know, just shoot me back an email.
Your trip looks amazing!
Tis a big place out there; amazing with each new vista, every new turn. Think how many times you've cruised across it in a few hours! Look for the horse wrangler of the one-handed ciggie rolling fame...he's surely there somewhere.
